EDUP wireless lan PC card

Anyone running Linux and thinking about buying one of these cards ("popular" on eBay -- example HERE) should NOT do so -- they are Windows ONLY, and you'll only be wasting your money.

NONE of the potential work-arounds for Windows-specific wifi devices will work with these things.

Just so you know...

Dear Dave,

sorry to comment on such an old post. I did exactly that - went out and bought an EDUP wireless pcmcia card for my Debian install on a Dell laptop, and I've followed the instructions for Ndiswrapper. Did you chuck it and buy a different one? What did you buy?

elise plans.

No problem, Elise. Maybe someone else will find (and read) this, too...

No, I didn't exactly chuck it; I sold it to a Win-dose user I know. Got back what I paid for it, and used the money toward a card from the list at Linux Wireless. I went with a D-Link, if I recall correctly - I haven't had to pull it out of my laptop since I plugged it in.

Brilliant - thanks for helping! I was using a linksys before and it was brilliant. I only got a new one because it didn't have WPA, only WEP (which everyone now seems to scoff at!) I'm tempted just to switch our router back to WEP and use the old card! I should have browsed that list more carefully!

If I do get anywhere with this edup, other than throwing it out the window, I'll report back!
